The former Schultz Mansion on Zanesville’s Putnam Avenue will soon be the home to 16 men seeking help with addiction.

Last operated as a bed and breakfast, the historic home will be repurposed as a residential treatment facility operated locally by Cedar Ridge Behavioral Health Solutions.

Company owner and CEO, Alicia Beynon and her husband Troy are both Guernsey County natives and operate several outpatient and inpatient facilities between Muskingum and Guernsey Counties.

“We put our first outpatient office in Muskingum County not too long ago, and we’re just able to see that there’s a huge need for this kind of treatment in this area,” said Beynon.

According to Beynon, the demand for such services is high as Cedar Ridge’s 36-bed residential facility in Frazeysburg is completely full with more on a wait list.

“This specific location at the Schultz was just, I mean, was perfect. It was ideal,” said Beynon. “It’s like a campus almost. Also nearby the other human service facilities in town.”

Like the The Landing at Cedar Ridge, the Frazeysburg facility, the Schultz at Cedar Ridge will offer 24-hour support for individuals in addiction recovery.

During the day, therapists, nurses and cooks will be on site to serve the needs of each resident.

The program is individually tailored for each resident and lasts an average of 90 days.

Residents receive about eight hours of treatment services per day, including individualized therapy sessions.

When residents first check in, they enter into a two-week no contact period with the outside world in order to get them into the right mindset.

After that initial orientation period, residents are incentivized to earn privileges such as phone calls and off-site passes as they “level-up” through the program.

According to Beynon, many of the residents are referrals from detox centers in need of continued treatment.

Residents can come from any of Ohio’s 88 counties, with referrals coming from all across the state.

The majority of people in the program are covered by insurance and managed care organizations, while some receive scholarships to help offset the cost.

In addition to addiction services, Cedar Ridge is able to offer mental health treatment, too.

So residents at The Schultz at Cedar Ridge with mental health needs on top of addiction are eligible for treatment.

The Schultz at Cedar Ridge officially opens its doors next week.
