Weekend Planner Sept. 13 – 16

Fall is on its way, but Ohio still has some warm weather left for the weekend. If the family doesn’t plan to be poolside for one of the last warm weekends, keep everybody busy with some of the indoor and outdoor events on this weekend’s radar. Thursday, Sept. 13:

  • Lock or Unlock Display– Works by members of the Art Loft from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the John McIntire Library. The works will be on display throughout the month of September in the Carnegie Wing Gallery on the second floor.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities.
  • Explorer’s Club at the John McIntire Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children in grades 4 through 7 are encouraged to participate in an event that takes students through a journey to discover a new country using the library’s CultureGrams Database.   • Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra Live in the Atrium at the Zanesville Museum of Art from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The Muskingum Valley Brass will perform along with a lecture by SEOSO director and conductor, Dr. Laura E. Schumann before the performances.

Friday, Sept. 14:

  • Lock or Unlock Display– Works by members of the Art Loft from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the John McIntire Library. The works will be on display throughout the month of September in the Carnegie Wing Gallery on the second floor.
  • The Wilds Sunset Safari Tour at 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
  • “A Day at Eastside” Play at Renner Theatre from 8 to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.
  • Cello Fury at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 8 to 11 p.m. The band of three cellists and a drummer will hold a free live show at Weasel Boy for an early soft release of their new album.

Saturday, Sept. 15:

  • Zanesville City Half Marathon starting off at Zane Landing Park at 7 a.m. If 13.1 miles doesn’t sound appealing, there’s also a 5K and 1-mile option as well. Visit the race’s official website here, or contact Hanna Luburgh-Agin at 740.624.5057.
  • Indoor Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zanesville Civic League. The event is rain or shine. There will be concessions and a 50/50 drawing. To reserve a $5 table call the center at 740.452.7401.
  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Fairgrounds on Pershing Road.
  • Ohio Opens Doors at The Stone Academy and Dr. Increase Mathew House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both museums will be open to the public, free of charge, as part of the state-wide event. The event is sponsored by the Ohio History Connection.
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Corn Maze at McDonald’s Greenhouse kicks off today at 10 a.m. The maze is every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 29. Additional days will be added in October.
  • Bring Your Own Piece BYOP Class hosted by Girl UpCycled Studio from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The artist will be able to guide participants through the painting process. Items brought to the class must be small enough to fit in a front seat. It costs $10 to reserve your spot.
  • Afternoon Family Movie at the John McIntire Public Library from 2 to 3 p.m. The whole family can watch Paddington 2 during the free viewing at the library. All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Call the Youth Services desk with questions at 740.453.0391 ext. 115.
  • The Fourth Foot by Foot on the Winding Road A-Z at the ZAAP Gallery from 2 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Artists compete against one another for a chance to win a variety of monetary prizes totaling $1,000.
  • Lorena Sternwheeler Public Rides from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. Days to enjoy a ride on the sternwheeler are running out for this season. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, Adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.

  • Lorena Sternwheeler Dinner Cruise at Zane Landing Park beginning at 6 p.m. There’s only three dates left for participants to enjoy a dinner cruise on the Lorena before the season ends. Cruisers can select a prime rib, a chicken breast or a vegetable lasagna dinner. Those wishing to participate must make reservations 48 hours in advance by calling 740.455.8282.
  • Reel Meal is back for September and this month’s documentary is Simon Schama’s Power of Art: Rembrandt at 6 p.m. The event is hosted at Seilers’ Studio and Gallery. It’s free and open to the public but donations are accepted. Participants are encouraged to bring their own viewing snacks.

  • The Devil Doves Live at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Go enjoy the rocking music while enjoying some beverages and food.

Sunday, Sept. 16:

  • Mountain Bike Clinic and Ride at McGraw Edison Recreational Park hosted by Muskingum Valley Park Society. The clinic is for beginners and time will depend upon how long traveling through the course takes.

  • High School Movie Night hosted by Zanesville Catholic Teens from 6 to 8 p.m. Students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to view “When the Game Stands Tall” outside under the stars while enjoying free pizza and popcorn, weather permitting. The event is rain or shine and will move inside if it rains.
