All the miles and training runners put in over the summer will be put to the test this weekend when more than 300 participate in Zanesville’s inaugural half marathon and another 115 participate in the 5K and 1-mile portion of the race.

The event is organized by the Muskingum County Community Foundation as part of the non-profit’s wellness and recreation aim.

The race begins Saturday morning at 7 a.m. at Zane’s Landing Park, but road closure begin at 6 a.m. so runners and spectators should plan accordingly.

During the four-hour time span from when the runners take off and when the last are expected to cross the finish line, supporters at the park can pass the time with music, Russo’s Pizza and Weasel Boy brews.

According to race organizer Hanna Luburgh-Agin, spectators can see the start and end of the race at Zane’s Landing Park, but she also suggests watching from the 6th Street Bridge for another perspective.

Proceeds from the half-marathon will support community efforts in line with MCCF’s wellness and recreation cornerstone.

It’s not too late to sign up for any of the races. The registration deadline runs right up until the morning of the race.
