Furry Friend Friday: ‘Marked’ for a new start

By Jessica Johnston, Reporter

This week’s Furry Friend Friday is a Terrier-mix named Mark.

Mark has been at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center since early spring. He’s a medium-sized dog with coarse, dirty-blonde fur.

“He’s a very sweet dog,” Dog Warden Brittany Calihan said. “He’s very affectionate. We love him.”

Calihan said he’s believed to be about four years-old. He got his name from his appearance when the wardens picked him up. Mark had many scabs, bruises and marks when he was taken to the center.

He was called in as a stray, but upon arriving to retrieve him, the wardens recognized the owners from a previous Humane Society visit.

The owners had previously completed all requests made by the Humane Society and the Dog Warden, but a month later Mark was picked up.

“He didn’t really have the best life before,” Calihan said. “When Mark came in, he was covered in scars and blood, he looked really bad. He was really skinny.”

The enthusiastic furry friend has adjusted well to the adoption center and is friendly with everyone he interacts with.

“He’s really put on weight here, we cleared him of all his scabs, all of his hair grew back and he’s just really doing very well here,” Calihan said.

While Mark has adjusted well and is friendly with the people he interacts with, he doesn’t always have the best time with other dogs. Calihan said that the dog warden’s would like to see him be adopted into an only-dog family.

He is a volunteer favorite at the adoption center. One of the volunteers comes in every Saturday to walk him. On their walks, the volunteer always snaps a selfie of their adventure.

People interested in visiting Mark are encouraged to call the adoption center to set up a greeting time. Families are encouraged to bring their children to acclimate during the visit.
