Summer is bringing out plenty of events in Zanesville and around Muskingum County. Here’s a guide to keep every local busy all weekend long. Have a weekend event that needs added to the list? Email us at contact@ycitynews.com.

Thursday, Aug. 16:

  • The Muskingum County Fair is still going on, so grab $5 for admissions. For the full list of Thursday’s events click here.
  • Works by Maraya Metz Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Metz is a student artist in the area whose work will be on display at the library through the month of August.
  • Artists of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The display will show works of art from the participating seniors at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors. The display will be available on weekdays throughout August.
  • 73rd Ohio Annual Exhibition at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is celebrating the museum’s commitment to recognizing and promoting some of Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities
  • Movie Matinee at the John McIntire Library from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event is a showing of I Can Only Imagine. The film is rated PG. For more information call the Reference Desk at 740.453.0391.

Friday, Aug. 17:

  • The Muskingum County Fair kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Showman of Showmen Contest. It’s Pepsi Day, so bring an empty 20 oz. plastic bottle for free admission between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

  • The Wilds Sunset Safari Tour at 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
  • Music and Dinner on the Patio at Bryan Place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the event, call 740.450.8008.
  • Man of La Mancha Theatre Production from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Renner Theatre. For more information and tickets call 740-453-8481.
  • Falling Under Live at Smiling Goat from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Must be 21 years old or older.

Saturday, Aug. 18:

  • The Muskingum County Fair today is the very last day to enjoy the fair for this year. The Truck, Tractor and Semi Pull starts at 5:30 p.m., Square Dance at 8 p.m. and rides close at 11 p.m. Check Y-City News for fair photos after the events conclude.
  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. has been moved downtown to Third Street this week due to the fair activities at the fairgrounds.

  • Clear the Shelter Event at the Animal Shelter Society and The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., respectively. There are many furry friends looking homes just as friendly as they are.

  • Blessing Our Community Through Giving at the Pentecostals of Zanesville starting at 12 p.m. The event is free to the family and will have many activities for children. There will also be 100 backpacks and school supplies given away.
  • OSU Wreath Party at Weasel Boy Brewing at 1 p.m. It costs $40 for three hours of fun. Reserve your seat by texting Kate Kuston at 740.819.9818.
  • First Annual Party at the Putnam Tavern starting at 1 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee.

  • Reel Meal at the Seiler’s Gallery beginning at 6 p.m. The flier describes the event as “social event” in the historic portion of downtown Zanesville. The group watches a film, eats food and socializes. This month’s film is The Larry Doby Story. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks or appetizers, a lawn chair and a few dollars to donate.
  • Mister Joe Live at Y-Bridge Brewing Company from 7 to 10 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 19:

  • The Third Annual Ride for Rhinos Motorcycle Ride from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. it begins at Iron Pony Motorsports in Westerville, OH and goes to The Wilds in Cumberland, OH. The ride benefits the Rhinoceros at The Wilds.
  • Man of La Mancha Theatre Production from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Renner Theatre. For more information and tickets call 740-453-8481.
