Week end wrap up

It’s difficult to keep up with every story that’s published throughout the week. Think you might have missed something? No worries, here are some bite-sized blurbs about the important news that happened this week to keep you in the loop.

  • The special election is still in full swing and people are getting fired up about the candidates. Troy Balderson made a stop in his hometown of Zanesville on Thursday. He talked a lot about jobs and his recent endorsements. Full story.
  • Jim Renacci made a few stops at local businesses in Zanesville on Friday. He’s running for Senate against Sherrod Brown. Renacci is a republican who’s focusing on economic growth. Full story.

Breaking up the politics talk

  • A six-year-old boy was bitten in the face by a dog Thursday. This is the second time the dog had bitten a person. The dog warden was called in to take and euthanize the dog. The condition of the boy is unknown at this time. Full story.
  • The Lorena Sternwheeler had an engine room fire during a daycare field trip earlier this week. All passengers exited the sternwheeler uninjured and The Lorena only sustained minor damages. Full Story.
  • Thankfully, the damages were repaired and the sternwheeler is ready to float down the river again. All public rides and cruises will resume today. Full story.
  • A man strolling through the Greenwood Cemetery found some bones under a tree. The coroner’s office is investigating, and it’s unclear how they got there. Full story.
  • The Muskingum County Commissioners recognized the volunteers of the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. The warden’s jobs get a little “ruff,” so the volunteers play a fundamental role in keeping the center running. Full story.

We had an accident … actually, a few

  • Due to heavy rains and high water, a car hydroplaned into a pole on Tuesday. The pole along with electrical wires fell onto the car. It was unclear if the driver was injured at the time of the accident. Full story.
  • A man went over the double-yellow lines going east on U.S. 40. He hit a woman head-on. She was transported to the hospital and later died. The driver, Derek Weaver, fled the scene and police are still looking for him. Full story.
  • Two people were cited after an accident at the intersection of Putnam Avenue and Pierce Street. One driver was cited for running a red which caused the accident and the other driver was cited for driving with a suspended license. One person sustained injuries. Full story.

Enough crashing, here’s some sports

  • Dartavious Stanford is hoping to transfer his personal success into a team culture. While Stanford is personally doing well at Capital, the team as a whole struggled a little bit last year. He’s hoping to change that. Full story.
  • Brody Hahn threw to impress last year. The young Muskie quarterback is ready to adapt to the new coaching staff and apply his talents to the upcoming season. Full story.

Coming and going …

  • AVC Communications, Inc. is expanding its reach into Zanesville. People in the area can now tune into 98.7FM to enjoy more country music. The station, operated out of Cambridge, will offer music, sports coverage, local news and more. Full story.
  • FYE is heading out. The store is one of potentially many FYE stores closing the doors. There’s a lot of discounts happening to clear the shelves. Full story.

Let’s go somewhere

  • The Y-Bridge Arts Festival is celebrating its 10th year the only way it knows how; with art. The festival starts Friday and runs through Saturday. Full story.
  • Great Clips is supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The South Zanesville Great Clips is holding a raffle to raise money in partnership with the Light the Night Walk. The raffle will conclude on Sept. 12. Full story.
  • Have some hazardous household waste hanging out in the basement? If so, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection event Saturday is for you. The event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State joint parking lot. For more details visit the full story.
