Summer is bringing out plenty of events in Zanesville and around Muskingum County. Here’s a guide to keep every local busy all weekend long. Have a weekend event that needs added to the list? Email us at contact@ycitynews.com.
Thursday, Aug. 2:
- Works by Maraya Metz Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Metz is a student artist in the area whose work will be on display at the library through the month of August.
- Artists of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The display will show works of art from the participating seniors at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors. The display will be available on weekdays throughout August.
- 73rd Ohio Annual Exhibition at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is celebrating the museum’s commitment to recognizing and promoting some of Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.
- The Character of Mexico 1959-1960: Works by Dr. Charles Dietz at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Linn Auditorium. Dr. Charles Dietz was the Director of the Zanesville Art Institute from 1954-1995. He took time off to dedicate to his own painting from 1959 – 1960.
- Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
- Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities
- Anime Movie Day at the John McIntire Library from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event is geared toward teens and young adults to view a film by Hayao Miyazaki. For more information contact the Reference Department.
Friday, Aug. 3:
- The Y-Bridge Arts Festival kicks off Friday and runs through Saturday. Many artists are set to display and sell their art during the two-day long festival. The event is free for all.

- FREE Hepatitis A Vaccination Clinic at the James Singer Activity Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, hosted by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, is open to the public and vaccinations are encouraged. - Lorena Sternwheeler Public Rides from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.
- Artists of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Display Opening Reception at the John McIntire Library in the Carnegie Wing Gallery from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The display will be available on weekdays throughout August from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Wilds Sunset Safari Tour at 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
- St. Nicholas Festival behind Bishop Fendwick School on East Main from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. There will be live music, food and drinks, rides for children, games and raffles.
- Music and Dinner on the Patio at Bryan Place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about the event, call 740.450.8008.
- Lorena Sternwheeler Twilight Cruise at Zane Landing Park from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hour-long twilight cruise on the river holds the same rates as the daily public rides. Seniors ride for $7, adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4. No reservations are needed but guests are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes before departure.
Saturday, Aug. 4:

- Linda’s Sweets One Year Anniversary at Linda’s Sweets on Linden Avenue from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will have raffles, drawings and new items to sample. Visitors can enjoy $1 birthday cupcakes or all other cupcakes for $1.50.
- Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Fairgrounds on Pershing Road.
- 11 Annual Dresden Melon Festival at Dresden River Park from 9:15 a.m. to 11 p.m. The activities, entertainment and 5K race celebrate the area’s melon-growing heritage. Admission is $1 before 4 p.m. and $2 after 4 p.m.

- Mark Twain Family Fun Day at Blue Rock State Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a family-friendly event.

- Summer Concert at the Smiling Goat from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This Friday’s performer is Firehouse presented by WYBZ.
Sunday, Aug. 5:
- Westview Festival at the Westview Elementary School Lot on Dresden Road from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call the Muskingum Valley Park District for more information.
