Week End Wrap Up

It’s difficult to keep up with every story that’s published throughout the week. Think you might have missed something? No worries, here are some bite-sized blurbs about the important news that happened this week to keep you in the loop.

All eyes on the city

  • George Kagafas, the former Planning and Zoning Administrator resigned last Friday. Fast forward to Monday, he went before Zanesville City Council to discuss what he said were ordnances on the agenda. Lots of allegations about the Community Development Department were made. Full story.
  • Jay Bennett, Director of Community Development, so Kagafas’ boss, responded to the allegations. He chalks a lot of things up to “misinterpretation.” He doesn’t see many of the issues within the department that Kagafas stated. Full story.

Driving out of the city now …

  • The owners of the John and Annie Glenn Museum were granted $25,000 for renovations of the museum. Full story.
  • Fair Oaks Baptist Church celebrated its 125th year anniversary this past Sunday. The church’s history has spanned over three centuries over on Putnam Avenue. Feeling Blessed. Full story.
  • Ohio University assumed the leadership position in the Muskingum Recreation Center financial plan. The center has been experiencing debt and annual operating losses. Full story.
  • Muskingum football wants to win this year. No one really aims to lose but having wins on the mind helps out. Coach Leuter’s goal is to implement a winning culture at Muskingum for the upcoming academic year. Full story.

Let’s go somewhere

  • Have a boring weekend ahead? No worries. The weekend planner is full of things to keep everyone busy all weekend long. Lots of live music, reenactments and Christmas in July this weekend. Full list of events.
  • Adamsville Homecoming kicked off on Wednesday and runs through Saturday. There will be fireworks to conclude the festivities on Saturday. Event preview.
  • The 6th Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Month Party-in-the-Park is Saturday at Dillon Dam Park. August is breastfeeding awareness month and Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is raising awareness about the health benefits for both tiny humans and their mommas. Event preview.
  • McDonald’s is teaming up with Falls Township Fire Department to educate the community and specifically children on the importance of fire safety. There will be many interactive activities for the children and educational material for all ages. Event preview.
