The South Zanesville Village Council is taking action to either repair or close the village pool.

The council voted and approved an ordinance to put a levy on the November ballot to give citizens the opportunity to vote on an additional tax to keep the pool up and running.

There is a leak in the concrete underneath the pool rendering it unusable. It needs new plumbing and a new filter system. The concrete will have to be dug up in order to fix the leak.

“We’re either going to redo the plumbing and the filter system and make it good for longevity or we’re going to fill it in.” South Zanesville Village Mayor Jim Perdue said.

The pool was build 35 years ago. There has been concrete added to the pool and the fencing around the pool was expanded. There have not been major maintenance projects done to the pool over its duration in South Zanesville.

Champion Contractors was hired to inspect the pool but the contractors were unable to determine where the leak was coming from.

“It’s time to upgrade it or do away with it,” Perdue said.

Perdue said the council puts about $10,000 into the pool every year. Some years the council regains that money from the pool and other years its left footing the bill.
