Man arrested following hit-and-run

By Staff Report

Multiple area law enforcement agencies spent Wednesday afternoon searching for suspects after a crash along Interstate 70, just west of Zanesville.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Zanesville Post Commander Lieutenant Russell Pasqualetti, after a motorist vehicle had become disabled along the interstate, the driver went to get help and when she returned she found that her vehicle had been sideswiped.

Witnesses told police they observed three individuals exit the vehicle and run into the woods north of the interstate.

Multiple units from the OSHP, as well as a K-9 unit from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, were on scene along Lake Vista Drive searching for the suspects.

Officers were able to locate the driver of the vehicle at the top of a wooded hill between two residences.

An aviation unit from the OSHP’s Akron region sent a Cessna 182S Skylane airplane to help aid in the search but was later called off.

Pasqualetti said the driver appeared to be under the influence and that Trooper Jared Myers is handling the arrest.

The other two suspects have yet to be located, but Pasqualetti said that they don’t have any known charges on the two passengers.

The name of the driver or his two passengers is not being released at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
