An area local soccer club is looking for its next group of players.

The Zanesville Arsenal Soccer Club is hosting open tryouts over the span of two weeks, starting on May 29. All area soccer players are invited to Riverside Park for a chance to make the club.

A part of Zanesville for the past 12 years, the group hopes to see what kind of talent lies in the area. Roderick Gibson, the director of coaching for Zanesville Arsenal S.C., said the club is looking for skilled players, while also giving guidance they can use in the next phases of their careers.

“It gives kids the opportunity if they want a little more training than what they would see at the recreational level,” he said. “That’s what we’re here for. To help provide that. When they’re 12 and under, we love to work with their technical work, help build their ability there. And then when they’re 13 and over, we will work on their tactical work, so by they time they graduate out of our program at 18 or 19 (years old), they’re ready for college and the next step.”

The club is sponsered by the Riverside Outdoor Soccer Association. Players with birth years from 2007-11 will have tryouts on May 29 and 31 at 6 p.m., while players with birth years ranging from 2000-06 are invited on June 4 and 6 at 6 p.m.
