Student investigated for Snapchat post arrested on unrelated charges

By Christine Holmes, News Director

A teenager has been arrested on charges unrelated to his post on social media that launched an investigation over the weekend after students at Philo High School alerted authorities to the activity.

According to Sheriff Matt Lutz, the student was no longer attending classes when he made a comment on Snapchat that prompted students to report the post.

School officials who became involved then contacted the Muskingum County Sheriff’s office to investigate.

Lutz said there was no direct threat made in the post, but it was investigated overnight before classes resumed as normal Monday morning.

Since the investigation is still ongoing, Lutz could not elaborate further on the nature of the post and what students found alarming.

At this time, Lutz cannot comment on the pending charges the arrested individual faces.

On Twitter Monday afternoon, Lutz wrote “Just an update on the Philo High School investigation. There were no actual threats made on the social media  post and it is still under review. However, as the investigation continued today, the student was arrested on charges unrelated to the social media post.”
