A 60 year-old Lancaster woman was involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident that landed her in the Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas.

Monday morning, Rebecca Whaley pleaded guilty to one fifth-degree felony count of possession of drugs methamphetamine and one first-degree misdemeanor count of OVI stemming from a crash in April in which she was the only one involved.

The woman crashed her vehicle on April 3 around 1:30 a.m. and had to be extricated from the vehicle through the windshield by Falls Township Fire and EMS, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gerald Anderson said.

First responders noted that the woman had slurred speech at the crash site.

Upon her rescue from the vehicle, Whaley was taken to the hospital where she agreed to submit a urine sample.

While at the hospital, Whaley asked a nurse for a napkin. After receiving the tissue, the nurse observed Whaley reach for for groin area with the napkin, grab something and then throw the napkin into the trash, Anderson said in court.

Inside the napkin was a container with pills, as well as methamphetamine.

The amount of methamphetamine found inside the container was less than the bulk amount, Anderson said.

Whaley’s urine sample also indicated that she had methamphetamine in her system at the time.

During her plea hearing, Anderson and Whaley’s defense attorney Dave Mortimer recommended that Whaley be placed on community control.

The woman’s bond, which was reduced to a recognizance bond in September, was continued pending her sentencing.
