The folks at Zanesville’s Kellogg Company location are making an effort to protect the area near their plant from litter.

On Thursday, employees of the MorningStar Farms plant took time out of their afternoon to pick up trash along Northpointe Drive near Fairview Road.

“Our purpose is to increase our presence in the community and decrease our footprint on the environment, and so we’re adopting a section of highway where we’re going to pick up and remove litter,” said Plant Director Derrick Brewster. “We’re going to try to maintain that section of highway for the next few years.”

Zanesville Assistant Fire Chief Doug Hobson met members of the company’s “Go Green Team” to educate them on potential safety hazards they might find along the way, as well as provide them with gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers and a helping hand.

Brewster said the cleanup is just one of the team’s environment-focused projects of the year.

“We are energetic about doing business in Zanesville, and we wanted to provide back to the community in which we serve,” said Brewster.

Hobson, who has been assisting various community groups with cleanups throughout Zanesville, applauded the company’s work, which yielded a total of eight trash bags full of litter.

“I just want to challenge the community to follow Kellogg’s footsteps,” said Hobson.
