City announces installation of speed humps on Center Drive to begin Monday
August 22, 2019
In July, the Zanesville City Council approved the purchase of 11 speed humps with intentions to install them along Center Drive. Come Monday, the installation process will begin.
Thursday morning, Zanesville City Hall announced that the installation of speed humps on Center Drive and Rankin Drive will begin Monday, Aug. 26, at 7:30 a.m.
The announcement stated that, weather permitting, the installation will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day throughout the week.
During the installation process, one lane of the roadway will be closed and flaggers will be on scene to assist with traffic flow. The City asked all motorists in the area to use caution as workers will be on the roadway.
The installation of the speed humps comes from an effort to both reduce speed issues, as well as traffic flow through the area.

In a previous Y-City News Report, Zanesville City Engineer Chip Saunders said Center Drive has been an ongoing issue for many years.
“We paved that road four years ago, and it is falling apart. We should get a lot more time out of that road than four years,” Saunders said. “We’ve got crack-seal all over it, the center joint is falling apart. The more traffic we put on it, eventually, it’ll get bad enough that we will have to rebuild it or close it or something.”

I’ll be sure to use center drive everyday now !!!

I’m with you Bob! I never use Center but definitely will be using it now! The neighborhood put their own in a few years back and had to remove them. But they must have someone in “power” now and will be doing it legally.

For safety, it’s best to honk once or twice when you go over each new speed bump. This helps to remind the residents of the neighborhood that it’s still a public road that can used freely by tax payers. Personally, I’ll be using center drive every time I want to go to the north end of Zanesville, it beats the slow pace of the longer 35mph by-pass road and will help protest the silliness of the speed bumps and the special treatment city counsel gives to this neighborhood. 18k might be better spent on real road repairs like St. Rt. 60 or Muskingum Ave. that are creating wasteful traffic bottlenecks for residents, commuters and visitors.
How much is the city going to spend on labor to remove and reinstall these speed bumps each year for snow plowing?

Those speed bumps will be a lot of fun to plow snow over.
