Coming this September, the Zanesville Museum of Art is partnering with the Southeast Ohio Symphony Orchestra to host free concerts at the museum.

In order to make the upcoming concert series possible, the museum recently received a $6,000 grant from The J. William and Mary Helen Straker Charitable Foundation.

“The ZMA/SEOSO partnership was made possible by this grant,” ZMA Education Coordinator Misty Johnson stated in a media release. “This year’s concert series will feature a fantastic variety of dynamic performances in conjunction with the ZMA’s exciting exhibition schedule.”

The first of the series’ concerts will be held on Sept. 12 and features Two by Two, a bluegrass group.

This is the second year that the Zanesville Museum of Art has partnered with the Southeast Ohio Symphony Orchestra to provide free concerts to the community, but it’s the first year that the partners have been sponsored by The J. William and Mary Helen Straker Charitable Foundation.

During the concert series, the museum will be matching the performers of each concert to the featured exhibit within the museum. For example, in November, the concert will be Vivaldi’s Venice and will feature Italian composers. The concert will complement the museum’s fall exhibit of a An American in Venice | James McNeill Whistler and His Legacy.

Additionally, the annual Muskingum County K–12 Student Art Exhibition at the ZMA in May will be accompanied by a children’s concert.

The ZMA invites all community members to attend and enjoy each of the free concerts throughout the series.

A schedule of the concerts are as follows:

  • Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. — Two by Two
  • Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.— A Musical Adventure by The Tower Duo
  • Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. — Vivaldi’s Venice by Steve Miller
