The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to follow up on every lead available as the man suspected of being involved in the death of an infant on July 18.

Authorities have yet to speak to Derek Bush, who is tied to the death of baby girl in Roseville.

Standing at five-feet-eight-inches tall, Bush weighs about 170 pounds and has tattoos including a face on his right ankle, a dragon on his chest, daggers on his left calf and two hearts on his right shoulder with the names “Gage” and “Trevor.” He also has a scar on his left arm.

Bush, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, was in a Roseville home with the infant and another child on the night in question, Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said.

“Mr. Bush was with the child, the mother was in the vicinity, probably not at the house and I believe from the reports he did take the child over to the Roseville Fire Department and then the child was transported to the hospital from there,” Lutz said.

After leaving the fire department, Lutz said Bush was seen a second time before he was considered at large.

“Our detectives have been very busy trying to follow up on the leads,” Lutz said. “We appreciate everything the public has done calling in, we’ve had social media information coming in and we’ve followed up on everything we’ve been advised. The issue is we haven’t found him yet.”

Lutz added that the investigation cannot move forward until Bush is located and questioned about his knowledge of incident and if anyone else was involved.

Originally, Bush was charged with felonious assault, prior to the child’s death. An additional charge of aggravated murder is pending.

Bush’s last dress is located in Roseville, although he has family members that live in both the Zanesville and Crooksville areas.

Authorities believe that Bush is receiving help.

“We feel there probably is somebody helping him,” Lutz said. “Not to scare anybody, but if you are aiding him, you can be charged with that. This is a very serious investigation.”

While law enforcement is praising the public for their assistance throughout the investigation, Lutz said any additional information would be helpful.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Bush is encouraged to call dispatch at 740.452.3637 ext. 1, call the lead detective on the case Brad Shawger at 740.452.3637 ext. 6050, leave a tip on the Sheriff’s Office website here or send an email.

Tips can also be made via social media.

Tips can be made anonymously, although Lutz said tips that are tied to a real person may be more helpful. Regardless, all tips will be follow up on.

Law enforcement is advising that Bush is dangerous and should not be approached.
