Authorities retrieved the body from the Muskingum River at Village Park in Dresden.

A body was recovered from the Muskingum River Tuesday morning.

A jogger in the area of Gene Cox Memorial Drive observed the body floating down the river and alerted the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office around 9:30 a.m., MCSO Captain Jeff LeCocq said.

Both the Falls Township and Dresden Fire Departments responded to the call and pulled the unidentified person out of the river at Village Park in Dresden.

LeCocq said the male body, which is being treated as a John Doe at this time, was sent to the Licking County Morgue by the Muskingum County Coroner for autopsy.

There were no wounds observed on the body, LeCocq said.

The situation is currently under investigation.

There are several missing persons reports in surrounding counties. It is unclear if the body is related to any missing people. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s office is currently in communication with Knox and Coshocton Counties regarding missing persons.
