For the past 10 years, local community members have shown their support for those suffering with Huntington’s Disease through Team Hope Walk.

The goal of the annual Team Hope Walks, which take place across the country, is to raise funds and awareness for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

According to the HDSA, the symptoms of Huntington’s Disease — which is a genetic disorder that continuously breaks down nerve cells — are described to be similar to having Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease, simultaneously.

Last year, 65 community members walked in support of Huntington’s Disease.

The fundraising walk has raised over $1,800 thus far and has a goal of $10,000, according to the HDSA Team Hope event tracker. Currently, 38 people are registered for the walk.

The annual Zanesville Team Hope Walk is Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Rogge Pavilion located on the Ohio University/Zane State campus. Anyone interested in participating in the walk can register here. Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 7 to 12. Registration includes a T-shirt.

Walking will begin at 10 a.m. and it’s a rain or shine event.
